83 - refers to the Buffalo Grip family of wire pullers

5 - refers to the method of pull: either 83-5xx, 83-6xx, 83-7xx or (new)83-8xx

01 - refers to the design of the jaws: either 83-501L or P, 83-502, 83-504, 83-506

L or P - 'L' stands for simple loop only whereas the 'P' stands for a pulley only to be used with the customers block

The 83-601 Buffalo Grip, max.jaw opening .22 inches, double ended wire puller is designed to pull bare wire and has been used to pull 6 pair conductor carrier wire using an 80" supplied nylon strap and swivel hook. The zinc plated serrated steel Jaws and locking feature make this a durable and easy to use lineman tool.
